Summary

A stunning and sensitive portrait of the strength within each of us and the nourishment we receive from the natural world, by the New York Times bestselling creator of the acclaimed My Heart and The Book of Mistakes

Through poetic text and exquisite illustrations of children reveling in nature, this picture book explores the various ways we as human beings are strong, creative, and connected to others。 Each of us is like a tree, with roots and fruit, and an enduring link to everything else in nature。 The tree in me is strong。 It bends in the wind, and has roots that go deep 。 。 。 to where other roots reach up toward their own trunk-branch-crown and sky。

As Corinna Luyken did in her award-winning My Heart, she again provides an invigorating conversation-starter that contains a world of truths--about self-esteem, community, and living a meaningful life。

This was such a great find! This is going to be such an amazing introduction into poetry for my students since it is still an illustrated children's book! When I read this book, I was so uplifted by the message and I know that my future students will be too。 I also have to discuss the illustrations。 If you are like me and are drawn to beautifully illustrated books, pick this one up。 You will not be disappointed。 This was such a great find! Like “My Heart” this book is perfectly breathtaking for it’s art, writing and message。 All the stars once again for Corinna Luyken’s work。

A very interesting read。

This definitely falls into the category of a picture book written for adults。 While the illustrations are really breathtaking and gorgeous, the text is a very abstract metaphor about the multifaceted nature of who we are as individuals。 Even reading the description on Good Reads makes it sound like a book for a philosophy class!

Deborah

Absolutely luscious。

There is a tree in all of us, as this picture book so gorgeously demonstrates。 It’s a tree that is apple-orange-pear-almond-plum delicious。 It’s a tree of shade and sun。 All parts and stages of the tree are there, from the sapling through to the trunk and the crown。 It’s a tree full of creatures, like bees, squirrels and birds。 The tree brings wind and rain and dirt with it。 Rivers flow and the sky arches overhead。 The tree bends thanks to its deep roots。 It reaches to the sun。 And thanks to kno There is a tree in all of us, as this picture book so gorgeously demonstrates。 It’s a tree that is apple-orange-pear-almond-plum delicious。 It’s a tree of shade and sun。 All parts and stages of the tree are there, from the sapling through to the trunk and the crown。 It’s a tree full of creatures, like bees, squirrels and birds。 The tree brings wind and rain and dirt with it。 Rivers flow and the sky arches overhead。 The tree bends thanks to its deep roots。 It reaches to the sun。 And thanks to knowing there’s a tree in me, I know there’s a tree in you too。This picture book is written in simple poetic text that swirls on the page, inviting readers to look deeply at their own tree inside of them。 The inward connection with nature itself and with our own nature within is beautifully captured here, showing that we are part of nature at a deep level。 Children who are learning meditation will enjoy this new visualization of their connection with others too。The illustrations are a huge part of this book。 Done in what would seem wild colors of neon pinks and oranges, the connection to nature turns these colors into sunbeams, light in the trees, and the glow of merry playful cheeks。 Paired with the black ink used in the images for leaves, trunks, weeds and grass, the colors invite us into an interior world of brightness。A nature connection inward and outward。 Appropriate for ages 3-5。 。。。more

I don't know how Corinna Luyken consistently puts out these amazing beautiful books that are perfect combinations of story (and message) and stunning illustrations。 I'm sure you'll fall in love with this book once you get your hands on it。 I don't know how Corinna Luyken consistently puts out these amazing beautiful books that are perfect combinations of story (and message) and stunning illustrations。 I'm sure you'll fall in love with this book once you get your hands on it。 。。。more

I received an advance reader copy of this book from Edelweiss。This book is stunning。 The dreamy artwork is woven around words that illuminate the nature within us - seeing the beauty within and in others。 The message is lovely, heartwarming, and hopeful。 I hope to share this with many of my patrons, young and old。

the Tree in Me is a beautiful book。 The illustrations are gorgeous to drink in。 It is a beautiful metaphor for the multifacetedness of all of us。 Like Luyken's previous book, My Heart, I think this is a beautifully written book。 However, younger kids will likely not understand the metaphor the book presents。 They will still love the illustrations and all the different aspects of tress that are talked about, they just won't make a deeper connection with it without a little adult help。 A solid add the Tree in Me is a beautiful book。 The illustrations are gorgeous to drink in。 It is a beautiful metaphor for the multifacetedness of all of us。 Like Luyken's previous book, My Heart, I think this is a beautifully written book。 However, younger kids will likely not understand the metaphor the book presents。 They will still love the illustrations and all the different aspects of tress that are talked about, they just won't make a deeper connection with it without a little adult help。 A solid add to any library。 。。。more
